Denominational Annual General Meeting
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) takes place each spring. We value this time of gathering to connect, share new initiatives, and celebrate what God has been doing across our church family. It is a time when we share the good things we do together while enjoying being a part of an extended kingdom family.
Our AGM is also the official “Meeting of Members” for Be In Christ Church of Canada (BIC Canada) in accordance with the requirements for any registered corporation. In our federated structure, the members of our Annual General Meeting are the individual church congregations which have been accepted into membership by the BIC Canada Board of Directors.
Each member congregation takes part in the Meeting of Members (AGM) by appointing and sending delegates, who represent their congregation through their attendance at AGM, their contributions to the conversations during the meeting, and voting on motions presented during the meeting.
While only delegates are invited to vote and speak to motions from the floor, anyone is welcome to join as a non-voting attendee in order to stay informed about what is happening in our wider denominational family. We welcome anyone who is interested to come and celebrate with us!
HOW ARE DELEGATES DETERMINED?
-
Credentialed Church StaffFirst, any person credentialed by BIC Canada who is serving as a staff person in a member congregation is automatically a delegate to the AGM and is expected to attend. (For those in this role, attendance at the AGM may only be waived by permission of the BIC Canada Executive Director.)
-
Congregation-Appointed DelegatesSecond, each member congregation is expected to appoint one additional delegate for every 50 people (or part thereof) based on average weekly worship attendance in the previous year. For example, a church with an average attendance of 225 would send five additional delegates. These delegates should be nominated and affirmed by the local congregation prior to AGM each year.
-
Role-Based DelegatesThird, a congregation is also expected to appoint the following additional delegates: (a) anyone who is a member of their congregation and serves on the BIC Canada Board of Directors, (b) anyone who is a member of their congregation and is credentialed by the denomination to work in other ministry settings, such as chaplains, and (c) anyone who is a member of their congregation who is credentialed by the denomination but is now retired in good standing after serving for at least 25 years in a BIC Church.
Note: Credentialed persons who do not meet the criteria above are expected to attend AGM as a non-voting attendee.
